1st place Ben Lee of Lexington, SC 18.43 pounds / 2nd place Les Westberry of Neeses, SC 18.16 pounds / ALX Big fish winner Evan Weaver of Lexington, SC 7.96 pound largemouth.

 

This day started out with a cold 34 degrees and was at 63 degrees by the 3 pm weigh-in. The wind was out of the NW at 5 to 10 mph and then shifted to out of the SW by the end of the day. Lake Murray was down 3.5 feet with surface temp in the mid 50s. There were 33 anglers fishing which included one co-angler, 15 year old Grayson Best of Columbia, SC.


(This was the first D-96 tournament in which a polygraph test was utilized at our weigh-in. First place, second place and big fish winners were all tested and all successfully completed the tests.)


First place, Ben Lee of Lexington, SC had a 5 fish limit weighing 18.43 pounds that was anchored with a 6.09 pound kicker fish. He caught his fish on a jig and a jerkbait fishing the middle part of the lake. Ben won first place and first place option for a total of $898.
Les Westberry of Neeses, SC was second with 5 fish weighing 18.16 pounds, anchored by a 5.60 pound kicker fish. Les took home $569 for second place and second place option.
Chris Sample of Lexington, SC finished in third place with 5 fish weighing 17.27 pounds. Chris won $187 for his third place finish. Fourth place was Daniel Howell of Prosperity, SC. Daniel weighed in a 5 fish limit at 16.88 pounds and won $144 for the fourth place finish. In fifth place was Andy Wicker of Pomaria, SC. Andy had a 5 fish limit weighing 16.48 pounds and took home $108 for fifth place.


The ALX Rod Big Fish winner was Evan Weaver of Lexington, SC. Evan brought a 7.96 pound largemouth to the scales. Evan was fishing on the middle part of the lake and caught the big fish on a lipless crankbait. This fish is a D-96 season big fish leader. If it holds up Evan will win an ALX IKOS Rod of his choosing at the end of the season.
The most productive lures reported were spinnerbaits, crankbaits and jigs.
