Kim Neal wins the D25 AFT season opener on Lake Russell
Kim Neal of Easley, SC won the Ram American Fishing Tour South Carolina D25 season opener on Lake Russell September 18. Kim was the only angler to catch a five fish limit worth 11.24lbs. He reported catching fish on the upper part of the lake on a Shakey head worm. Kim earned $376 for 1st place and another $54 for 1st Place option pot for a total of $430. Finishing in 2nd place with a four fish limit was Grover Jones of Starr, SC weighing in 7.36lbs. Grover also had big fish of the tournament with a 3.92lb largemouth. He earned $163 for 2nd place, $36 for 2nd place option pot and $50 for Big Fish pot for a total of $249. Grover reported catching his fish shallow around shoreline cover on small crank baits.
The day started off at 68 degrees and by weigh in time it was up to 86 degrees. The water temps were 82-84 degrees and the majority of the lake was clear. There was a lot of schooling activity mentioned by everyone but most fish were small spotted bass. The next D25 tournament will be held at Lake Hartwell, October 9th launching out of the Green Pond facility.
