The day started out at 63 degrees with a light SW wind. At the 3pm weigh-in it was 75 degrees with a light WSW wind. In between we experienced light and heavy rain with wind at 15 to 20mph and gusts of 40mph.
There were 40 anglers fishing this Division 96 1-day qualifier tournament out of the Dreher Island State Park near Prosperity, SC.
First place, Phillip Anderson had 5 fish weighing 21.51 pounds that was anchored by the tournament ALX Rod Big Fish at 7.24 pounds. Phillip caught his fish on jigs and spinner baits fishing beds on the middle part of the lake. The combined payback for first place, Big Fish and first place option pot earned Phillip $1195. Phillip also took home the first place trophy and the big fish trophy.
Steve Gilstrap was second with 5 fish weighing 19.75 pounds which included a 6.14 pound kicker fish. He caught his fish on a jig and a buzzbait fishing around wood on the middle part of the lake. Steve took home the second place trophy and $695 for second place, second place option pot.
Roy Stuart took third place with 5 fish weighing 19.20 pounds which included a 5.66 pound kicker. Roy won third place trophy and $238.
Fourth place was Andy Lake with 5 fish weighing 18.65 pounds. Andy won a $180 for his fourth place finish.
Fifth place was Les Westberry with 5 fish weighing 18.38 pounds that included a kicker fish of 6.69 pounds. Les won $144 for fifth place.
Chase Stewart finished sixth with 5 fish weighing 18.01 pounds after a one pound penalty for two dead fish. Chase took home $108 for sixth place.
The next D-96 tournament for the 2018 season is March 18, 2018 on Clarks Hill Lake out of the Dorn Boating Facility near McCormick, SC.
First place Phillip Anderson had the Level performance Rod Big Sack of the day at 21.51 pounds.
Phillip Anderson also had the ALX Rod Big Fish of the day at 7.24 pounds.
Roy Stuart of Anderson, SC finished in third place with 19.20 pounds.
Don Branham of Hodges, SC with his kicker fish at 4.88 pounds.
